This post is part of a random daily blog series I am writing throughout January.
I am keeping it super simple for the blog today and sharing a bit about the day’s training. These are essentially what would be my notes with a bit of context.
I’ve been working on pacing workouts appropriately. I am known to burn it down early and then crash at the end. It’s ridiculous actually. I think it’s part nerves and part just immaturity because I get excited with movements I enjoy. And I guess that I likely need to add more long and paced interval style training to increase capacity. Whatever, the current state is that I have a tendency to burn it down early.
I don’t normally push my first (or only) training session to the evening, but that’s kind of where I ended up with the way the day went after a midday hike and then getting into a good zone for work.
My body needed something gritty and long that wasn’t a run. I came up with a 30-minute AMRAP (as many rounds/reps as possible) of 20 medball hinge to shoulder (30), 20 burpees, 20 single-arm overhead lunges (35). It was kind of perfect. I was very pleased with the stimulus and outcome. My heart rate with up, I moved consistently with very short breaks and stayed in the game mentally. I ended up with 7+40 (480 reps) and feeling like I got exactly what I wanted. And in a bonus kind of way, it felt like a really wrestling specific workout. Double win.
A couple other notes: Sleep really matters. I stayed up later than I wanted to last night and the morning was a mix of less than great planning and some weird emotions. It was super warm and bright out so I decided on a whim to go for a little hike along the Kinni. It was incredibly refreshing, and I had great company. I am also going to note that as a win for awareness and healthily shifting gears when I needed to. I owned that I mentally was off, addressed the root cause and instead of forfeiting the day I went out to recharge and came back to it. It was a good day.
Now to sleep and get back to the attack tomorrow.
